Plan Harahar is a poetic love letter, and also a short visual prose novella. It is, noticeably, asexual. It contains no name, no sprite, and no word “love”. It is the former half of the story, and will ever be, as intended. (At least I myself will not and do not intend to complete the story.)

The Plan is, first and foremost, my work.

I have always believed that humanly warmth is an indispensable part of a good work. My writing takes inspirations from many places: my personal romantic history, my travels (most prevalent being the one to Iceland), my family history through (and after) WWII, the time I tripped while running and walked one-legged for a month, and my experience lead-designing Ash Boat.

I would also like to pay tribute to Paul Celan, Emil Cioran, Herta Müller, Anne Carson, and many more outstanding poets and writers for their influence on my writing style.

Secondly, the Plan is a work dedicated to my mother. I don’t know how boundlessly brave she deliberately made herself look in front of me, but she really did go to the UK as expat on her own, carrying an unmistakable Chinese accent. That has always been a tremendous encouragement to me. Now, it’s my turn to encourage her.

Therefore, this will not be a pessimistic or depressing work.

The Plan is also an entry for this game jam themed “the long, long night”.

The phrase “the long, long night” has clearly become a bit clichéd. Let’s reinterpret it in a contemporary way:

1. The longest moment of the night is the moment it has just begun—when everything is at its brightest.

2. The longest night is one that will not disappear, or at least has no visible end.

3. “We speak darkness.”

Thus, every “night” I explicitly mention in the text is not the “night” used to match the theme.

During alpha testing, volunteers responded quite differently to the text’s level of difficulty. If you feel the text is obscure, just read a bit more. I firmly believe the difficulty a reader faces is also the difficulty the author faces while writing and weighing each line.

The Plan is of course, a game. If you don't know where the game part starts, try to find the imageries listed (and not listed) on main menu page in the game text. It would be fun, at least I'll think it is. By what standard are the imageries not living characters you could encounter?

Welcome to Plan Harahar.

ChatGPT-5.2 has done most of the localisation, due to the lack of time as I am currently a graduate student. I did the proofreading, and my edits will be very evidently present in the localisation. No AI was used in the original text, the graphic or the music.
